If your wedding photographer cancels the night before…
Short answer,
Call a working wedding photographer straight away and say clearly that the wedding is tomorrow. Photographers recommend each other in exactly this situation, so ask around.
I’m Paul Hands, a documentary wedding photographer in Hinckley, Leicestershire, with 14 years of experience, and last-minute rescues like this one are something I take on.

The call that came in on Tuesday night
At around 8pm on a Tuesday, my phone rang. Dawn, a bride, had been let down by her photographer. Her wedding was the next day.
I had planned to spend that day with my daughter. I arranged alternative care, cleared my diary, and agreed a fair price on the call. Dawn had one thing to do: relax. I told her to leave the photography with me.
What I delivered
The wedding was photographed the day after the call
Preview photographs reached Dawn within 24 hours
The full wedding gallery was delivered within four days of the booking
Dawn’s wedding was an intimate day with her children and parents. My approach suits that. I work quietly, stay close to the people who matter, and let the day unfold at its own pace. Her family treated me as part of the day, and that is the greatest compliment I can receive.

Dawn’s review
I’m sharing Dawn’s words because they describe the day better than I can.
“If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, Paul Hands Weddings is THE one!”
She went on to write that looking through the gallery feels like reliving the whole day all over again. That line means a great deal to me, because it is what I work towards. I build every wedding into a sequence, a story told in the order the day happened, so that remembering it is as easy as opening the gallery.
She also mentioned the family photograph of all three of her children with every pair of eyes open, including her 12-week-old baby. A photograph like that comes from patience and from being relaxed with a family, and from knowing when the moment has arrived.

The umbrellas
The forecast threatened rain, so I brought five matching umbrellas. The day stayed dry and they stayed in the bag. Preparing for the weather is part of looking after a wedding day, and I will always pack them.

Why last-minute weddings work for me
After 14 years, I know how a wedding day flows. I know where the light falls, when the emotion arrives, and how to keep the people in front of me comfortable. That experience lets me step into a day I met only hours earlier and still tell its story properly.
Frequently asked questions
Can a wedding photographer be booked the night before a wedding?
Yes, when the photographer has availability. Call as early as possible, say that the wedding is tomorrow, and ask other photographers for recommendations. Dawn found me through exactly that route.
How quickly can a full wedding gallery be delivered?
For Dawn’s wedding, the full gallery arrived within four days of the booking. Standard delivery times for planned weddings are listed on my weddings page.
What is documentary wedding photography?
Documentary wedding photography follows the day as it happens, without staging. The photographs are built into a sequence in the order the day unfolded, so the gallery tells the whole story.
Do you photograph intimate weddings?
Yes. Intimate days are some of my favourites, from a handful of family members to a full celebration. Every wedding receives the same care.
Where does Paul Hands Weddings work?
I am based in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and photograph weddings across the UK and abroad.

“***5 Star Review***
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer — Paul Hands Weddings is THE one!
The night before our wedding, we were let down by the photographer we had originally booked. Cue a huge amount of stress at what should have been such an exciting time! After being recommended Paul by other photographers, I managed to get hold of his number. After asking me to repeat “the wedding is TOMORROW” twice, he immediately sprang into action, rearranged his day to accommodate us, offered a fair price and reassured me not to worry about a thing. We had a photographer, and everything was going to be okay. I honestly cannot explain how much that meant to me!
I had a look through Paul’s website and read about his documentary style of photography. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but OH MY GOODNESS… our wedding gallery is absolutely incredible! Every special moment, every little detail and all the emotion of the day has been captured so beautifully, from beginning to end. Looking through our photos feels like reliving the whole day all over again, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
A special mention for the most beautiful family photograph of all three of our children, with every single one looking at the camera with their eyes open — including our 12-week-old baby! 😂 If you have children, you’ll understand just how much of a miracle that is! It’s one of my absolute favourite photos, and I will treasure it forever.
Paul was punctual, friendly, professional and, most importantly, felt like a member of the family rather than someone we had hired to photograph our wedding. Ours was a very intimate day, with just our children and parents there, so having someone who blended in so naturally and made everyone feel comfortable meant the world to us. He captured our day even better than I could ever have imagined, and both our preview photos and full wedding gallery arrived in record time. I am genuinely SO happy with every single photograph.
And then there’s the umbrella story! The forecast was threatening rain, but Paul told me not to worry and even went to the effort of bringing five matching umbrellas so we’d be prepared. Of course, because he had gone to all that trouble, it stayed dry and we didn’t need them at all! 😂 But that little gesture says everything about the kind of person he is. He genuinely cares, goes above and beyond, and wants your day to be perfect.
Paul, I honestly cannot thank you enough. You stepped in at the very last minute, took so much stress away from us and gave us memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. What started as a wedding-day nightmare turned into something truly wonderful, and we feel so lucky that you were the person who ended up capturing it all.
I have already recommended you to my engaged friends who are in the thick of wedding planning, but I wanted to share this review because I want other couples to know about you, too.
Your wedding photographer is such a huge part of your day. These are the photographs you’ll look back on for the rest of your lives, and you want someone who genuinely cares about getting it right. Paul is that person.
If you’re debating who to book, take this as your sign. Get in touch with Paul Hands Weddings. You will not regret it!
Thank you for everything, Paul. You were an absolute star, and we will be forever grateful. 🤍✨”
